Thanks for this, Christie. Your story adds a new dimension to such a major figure.
I only met Warren Buffett once, just a couple of years ago. We were leaving a Marilyn Maye concert in Okoboji when I approached him to say I first heard about him decades ago through Joe Rosenfield—Louise Noun’s brother—and what a fan Joe was of his. Buffett’s face lit up. He spoke warmly about how much he cared for this mutual friend.
I had a sense we could have talked for hours, but I stepped aside after sharing that brief message. Like so many others, I could’ve asked him a thousand questions.
Your column reminds me again how important it is to capture these moments—and how you continue to offer such a multifaceted perspective on the influential forces of our time.
I really enjoyed this. Warren Buffett has included so many 'pearls of wisdom' over the years through his letters to shareholders. A recent letter, November 25, 2024, clearly rises to the top for me, https://www.berkshirehathaway.com/news/nov2524.pdf. In the letter he shows, repeatedly, genuine humility (As I read it again, I can't help but contrast it to the constant lack of humility displayed by our current President.). And, he offers parental advice. A very heartwarming letter!
The “Ask “ has always been a challenge for me. I have learned that people want to be part of something that offers life, joy, healing and hope. Somehow goodness survives to save the day.
Like Julie said, you've added new dimension to Warren Buffett, and I really loved that no one looked up when he entered the room. I'd still rather dust a room (I hate dusting) than ask for money, but I admire the ability to do so for a good cause.

We teachers hand our students the bat as well.
Looks like I need to check out the Bill Bryson book at the library and dive into the “bat boy” legend! Great story, Christie.
I was waiting since our meeting Monday evening for this story. So much wisdom in the 'bat' metaphor, one I've pinned for future inspiration myself.
Thank you!
