Kelly Sullivan is my mentor and friend. So glad for the watch parties. I have read McCullough’s biography of Truman. I met President Truman when I was 4 and Tom and invited David McCullough to dinner with Michael and Barbara Gartner at Terrace Hill. McCullough graduated from Tom’s high school in Pittsburgh. We have so admired his work. That night we were in the presence of 2 Pulitzer Prize winner. It was one of my favorite Terrace Hill memories. Maybe that’s a column too.
Christie, your photo is on the wall of the nail salon (Amy's Nails) in Winterset owned by Amy Tran. You stood up with Amy the day she became an American citizen.
David McCullough wrote in his biography of Harry Truman that our 33rd president said when he left office, he had been promoted to citizen.
Congratulations, Citizen Vilsack. Looking forward to hearing from you here, and seeing you bring the new USS Iowa submarine SSS-797 "to life" as its sponsor during its commissioning into the Navy April 5. Sounds like a great subject for a column! :) You have a great compadre in Kelly Sullivan, sponsor of the USS The Sullivans DDG-68. I'll be watching from a watch party at the Sullivans' namesake museum here in Waterloo.
Welcome to Iowa Writers Collaborative. Glad Chuck and Julie talked you into it! And thank you and your husband for your service to our state and nation.
I am so glad to see that you have joined the IWC. I love the title of your column - Common Ground. I can’t think of a better guide than you. Thank you, Christie.
Hi Christie, A voice from the past--from the Global Campaign for Education-US in DC. I'm now retired from 9-5, but very much involved in political organizing here in NE Pennsylvania. We (Delaware Valley Action!) are doing an event on June 11th on the human impact of the dismantling of USAID. This must be a very painful saga for you. We have some some USAID folks who were involved in water purification projects in Africa and I would love to have someone share perspectives on the education impact of shutting down USAID. Zoom is fine. I would love to again be working with you!!
Would love to know what you are reading and why you are reading it. Recently finished The Lovely One and in the middle of The Trading Game: A Confession by Gary Stevenson. I picked The Lovely One just because I wanted to know her story. And The Trading Game was in the browsing shelf at the Boone Public Library.
